I really enjoyed investigating Reading Quest. As I was looking it over I was automatically thinking of topics I could use for different topics. Even topics that I could not include a reading activity in before. I also liked reading the part about the author and learning why he chose to start and maintain the site. I hope some of you are able to make use of the information as well!
Support for reading in the content areas
As a social studies teacher I have struggled to add reading in. It should be easy because there are a lot of options out there but finding them is not the hard part. It was what to do with the reading after. This website offers a ton of ways to take the "next step" to reading in the history content. There are a lot of graphic organizers to choose from but it is sometimes hard to connect them to my content without an example. One thing I really like about this site it that it gives an example for each strategy.
Ease of Navigation
This site really could not be easier to navigate. On the main screen there are a couple of options where you just click and it goes to the page. The page that holds all of the strategies is also user friendly. Easy to download, make changes, and use!
Availability of classroom resources
There is a whole page dedicated to resources. Each resource has a description, example, and blank copy free for using. Some of the strategies I have heard of but would have never used in my content because I could not make the connection. With this site they start the connection making it easier to amend for the specific topic I am teaching.
Usability for intended audience
For parents and teachers this site is super useable. Just find the organizer or strategy that fits the topic and print it. It could also be good for students. It would be cool to have the kids read and article then give them this site and have them pick a strategy or organizer to complete after. I think students would be able to navigate this information just as easily especially since an example is provided.
