Virtual Middle School Library
For today’s blog I chose to review the site, Virtual Middle School Library at http://www.sldirectory.com/virtual.html It originally caught my attention because many kids today do not want to look at a book or even go in a library. However, they are all about technology so I figured combining the two might make for a pretty good site, and it did! This librarian, Linda Bertland, did a really good job adding each aspect of a library to the website and more!
Support for Reading in the Content Areas
This site has it all! Links and information for all content areas, even music! I especially like the links that takes the students to live sites, such as USA Today, where they can read online what it going on in the world today. I also like the availability of YouTube links that allow students or parents to learn or understand something better.
Ease of Navigation
I think that this site is easy enough to navigate for students, teachers, and parents. There are titles that you click on and go right to that section. In each section there is a link and description of what you will find there. The only semi-downside is that the site is so big I think students could easily get lost or distracted. The good part is, at the top of each page there is a button that will take you back to the homepage so you could re-navigate if necessary.
Availability of Classroom Resources
This website has an abundance of classroom resources! From lesson plans, to activities, to assignments you can literally find it all here. There are ideas that could easily be manipulated to fit any content area. Any teacher could come to this site and find something useful!
Usability for intended audience: students, parents, teachers, or a combination
This site is user friendly for students, parents, and teachers. Parents and teachers can easily find the content they are looking for by clicking on a few links. Students have a whole section dedicated to just them. There is also a section to help students know where to start searching on the web.
